Meet the young journalists

of The M.A. Times

Editor and Chief: Jesse Higuera

-Founder

Hi my name is Jesse Higuera, I'm a founder of the M.A Times and a senior at Maywood Academy High School. At a young age, I attended private school and became sheltered because I grew up knowing only that which was showed to me. However, as I got older and matured I saw the corruption in our society. Many of us think that we cannot change the world, which to some extent is true, but if we want to see change then we must become the change we want to see. As Thomas Jefferson once said, “The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.”. I helped open this club in hopes that the young generation realize the world is filled with coruption since it is up to us to change it.

Editor and Chief: Nohemi Grande

-Founder

When I took part in the creation of this club/newspaper I knew I wanted to be involved because I realized that in of the most needed things at our school was a friendly resource for information other than the morning announcements, which unfortunately not everyone gets to hear. I'm passionate about informing the youth about the issues happening around us. My name will probably mostly appear on articles about politics and events, I think we all need to be informed in order to form unique and legit opinions. I hope I write about what not only informs and entertains, but also causes profound critical thinking in our readers.

-Co-writer of the Review.

-My interests range from a love of interior design and scrolling down my tumblr feed to find hilarious pictures of cats. I mean, who doesn't love grumpy cat?

-I’m basically one of those people you see in Starbucks with their laptops and wonder what they’re doing, well we all secretly know I'm there for the free wifi and music. Oh, and their pumpkin spice lattes. That chizz is good.

-Simply put, I joined newspaper to experience something new. I didn’t really have much going for me in school and I felt isolated, but, when I noticed Nohemi recruiting people for the Newspaper, I decided to join so I could share my opinions with all of you.

I am currently a sophomore here at MAHS. I am the co-writer of ‘The Review’, alongside Susanna Gutierrez. I am a dorky yet serious small person (if you’ve seen me in person, you know what I’m talking about). I am obsessed with music such as The Beatles, Lana Del Rey, Lorde and Coldplay just to name a few. I also love me some Tumblr, evolution fruit drinks, books and Orange is the New Black. I’m also on the cabinet for Environmental Club (vice president) and JSA (treasurer) so once in a while; I’ll write an article on a event that takes place. I really love to write and have been doing so since I was in the fourth grade. I’m really excited to what the newspaper has to offer and I’m extremely proud to be a part of it.

Journalist: Wendolyn Martinez

So about me…

To be completely honest there isn’t much to go on if you don’t want me to lie. Okay I just lied to you. If you want to know I’m a water addict, swimming competitively since I was 6 and as part of the MAHS Water Polo and Swim teams. Someday I hope to compete in the Olympics but I don’t believe in myself enough to actually believe I will. But if I can’t do that, I can write. Writing is one of the most important things to me considering it’s one of my only talents so it may have been the reason I joined the newspaper club. Even if I write the Sports section I still write originally and creatively, with some fan fiction, I hope to have the courage to post it here. I hope to keep my writing as the reporter for the sports section and post a couple of creative writing pieces also. So like I said earlier, there's not much to go on, I’m pretty simple.

P.S my favorite color is Lavender

My name is Maydely Remigio and I’m currently a junior at Maywood Academy. I like to read and write in my spare time. For fun I like to hang out with my friends and spend time with my family. My ambitions are to graduate high school and attend a university. Another goal of mine is to pursue the career I have in mind. I joined the Newspaper club because I've always wanted to experience what it feels like to help write a newspaper. I hope that I get to write about history.

Journalist: Samantha Morales

What's up fellow Hawkmen? My name is Samantha Morales, but you can call me Sam. I am a senior here at Maywood Academy H.S. and writer of the "What's Hatching this Month?" section. Some people say I am really loud and giggly, and to be honest they're not lying. I am an anti-socialite and a really awkward person to talk to. But if you really get to know me well, you will see the  quirky fun person that I truly am. My life is Lana Del Rey, Netflix, coffee, and food. My ambition is to graduate highschool, attend a univeristy (not sure which one, yet), and major in psychology. I joined Newspaper Club because it's something I wanted to try out and experience. Peace out !
